We are excited to bring these new, and long overdue, Crossbolt Kits to the turbocharged market. Safety is a paramount concern these days and we should put as much effort into protecting those that watch us race as we do into protecting ourselves. Engines are being pushed harder, cheap turbochargers & parts have become commonplace and the racing world is seeing more turbine failures than ever before. As racers we owe it to the fans to do everything we can to protect them as they come out to support our hobby and root, or boo, us on from alongside track.
These crossbolt kits are specifically engineered to transfer massive amounts of contained energy from an escaped turbine wheel to the bolts, bungs and exhaust pipe to limit collateral damage in the vicinity of the turbo and ideally contain the turbine wheel within the exhaust and engine bay. The CNC machined weld bungs provide a large diameter weld area to the exhaust pipe for a permanent high strength connection. These bungs are machined from Stainless Steel, or Titanium. The crossbolts themselves are made from an extremely strong Alloy Steel with a ground diameter surface to provide a tight fit and strong engagement surface with the weld bungs and exhaust pipe. Each kits includes copper sealing washers to eliminate, or reduce, exhaust gasses from leaking from the bolt surfaces as well.
3"-3.5" exhaust kits have a 5/16" diameter engagement.
4"-6" exhaust kits have a 3/8" diameter engagement.
8" exhaust kit have a 1/2" diameter engagement.
Opinion: STOP BUILDING ALUMINUM EXHAUSTS FOR TURBO CARS!! They should be outlawed.
Installation procedures must be followed to ensure these work properly.
- Install the crossbolts as close as possible to the outlet of the turbine housing. Ideally less than 3" from the outlet.
- Weld bung positioning should ensure the bolts are at a 90deg angle to each other.
- Spacing between the two bolts should be as close as possible and not more than 3/8"
- Use a quality 304/316/321 Stainless 16ga tube or High Quality Titanium tube with a minimum .049 wall thickness.
In the event you ever choose to remove the crossbolts the bungs can easily be tapped with a 7/16"-20 tap and plugged with a socket head cap screw.
